A LAUGH : ...."Coaching Mom "


At one point during a game, the coach said to one of
his young players, "Do you understand what co-operation
is? What a team is?"

The little boy nodded in the affirmative.

"Do you understand that what matters is whether we win
together as a team?"

The little boy nodded yes.

"So," the coach continued, "when a strike is called,
or you're out at first, you don't argue or curse or
attack the umpire. Do you understand all that?"

Again the little boy nodded.

"Good," said the coach. "Now go over there and
explain it to your mother."

Coaching in heaven

St Peter and the Devil were having an argument one day about hockey. The Devil proposed a game to be played between a select team from the heavenly host and his own hand-picked boys.
"Very well" said the gatekeeper of Heaven, "but you realize, I hope, that we've got all the good players and the best coaches."

"I know, and that's alright," the Devil answered; "we've got all the referees!!"


LESSON: "Creating A Team Spirit With the Will to Win"

(from SuperSupervisor 2, People Skill 3)

It is the coaches responsibility to create and nurture a team spirit among his or her people. Here are the Four Feelings of winning teams and 10 ways to create them.

Four Feeling of Winning Teams:

1. Each player feels good about himself or herself.

2. They feel good about each other.

3. They feel good about the coach.

4. They feel good about the the company or organization they are playing for.

10 ways to promote the "team spirit"

1. Be approachable and available. Remember, you are a coach and not a cop.

2. Each player is important. Never do or say anything to a player that de-humanizes them in any way. All players are treated with respect and dignity.

3. Be honest. Always be truthful. When the occasion calls for it, be willing to say "I was wrong"

4. Listen and learn. Be open and willing to listen to ideas and suggestions from any player whether they are on the "A" team or not).

5. Be generous. Ready to take more of the blame when you loose and less of the credit when you win

6. Be strong and confident. Never entertain the possibility of failure on one of your projects. Don't let them see doubt on your face.

7. Give everyone a chance to "shine". Generously and publicly give credit to each team member for his or her contribution to the team's success.

8. Promote harmony. Speak well of the company or organization often and in the presence of the team

9. Customer focus. Make sure they know and respect the internal and external customer depending on them.

10. Arouse and feed the competitive instinct. Teach them the game they are in, who the competition is, the current score, whether they are winning or losing and by how much.

WE GOT MAIL......From You! Fred Starling, one of our certified trainers in North Carolina recently conducted a public SuperSupervisor 1 People Skills 101 4 hour workshop. It went very well as one participant testifies.

I attended Mildred Ramsey's class held in Greensboro, NC on Friday, 4-23. The class was "Super Supervisor: People Skills 101". The instructor, Fred Starling, was extremely enthusiastic and had a captive audience in between the videos. It was one of the best seminar's I've ever attended on people skills. Mildred is genuine, simple, and to the point. It's what we all need to hear and she's right...it starts in the home ! Her class comes from the heart and the heart starts at home. I was especially "thrilled" when Mildred made a personal appearance at the end of the class. She was the same person as on the video....GENUINE ! Her son Doug Ramsey sat in on the first class as you could tell that he was "proud" of his Momma. He was as enthusiastic and pumped as our instructor. If she has more classes in the Greensboro I don't want to miss out. Thanks Mildred for sharing your life-experiences with us working folks. God Bless you all and "Thank You" for the great class! Yes, I started practicing being "positive" when I left the class and it has already paid off in spades.
