On the "High Tech" super highway we are traveling today, the positive zones are easy to miss as we speed along talking on our cell phones. Yet we must find them if we expect to be happy and fulfill our purpose in life, because all the "good stuff" is in the positive zone and sometimes unplanned exits must be taken.

A LAUGH : ...."An Audience with the Pope"

Jim had an extremely negative barber who "put him down" at every appointment and never missed a chance to criticize and correct him. Jim could never think of a good "Comeback" to shut him up, until one day he announced that he was going to Rome to see the pope.
"Yeah", you'll see the pope all right, from St Peter's square, along with 85,000 other people" said the barber.
After an absence of 3 weeks, Jim showed up at the barber shop. "Well" said the barber, "Did you go to Rome"
"I sure did" answered Jim, "And I saw the Pope".
"On the Balcony, along with 85,000 other people?" said the barber.
"Yeah", said Jim, but he picked me out of the crowd and sent two men down to get me and said he wanted to talk to me".
"I don't believe it" said the barber, "What did he say?"
Jim answered, "He said, where in the world did you get that awful haircut!!?"

A LESSON: (from SuperSupervisor 1, People Skill 6)

"Operating in the Positive Zone". Here are three basic "Truths" that will help you move into the positive zone and give you the opportunity to lead others there. If you will choose a positive attitude whenever you find yourself drifting over into the negative lane, and confidently put out only positive vibrations to the world, you begin to receive the good stuff God intended for you.

1. Attitude is not genetically inherited...... it is a CHOICE! There are some things you cannot change such as your height, eye color, or the thickness or color of your hair or the color of your skin. All these were decided for you in your mother's womb. But my friend, there is one thing you can change, and that is your attitude! Your attitude is not genetically inherited or controlled. Your mind set controls your attitude and nobody on this planet can let one thing go on in your mind but YOU!. You are the BOSS, the KING and the POTENTATE. Every person chooses the kind of thoughts they will invite into, and entertain in their minds. Others may influence you but ultimately and absolutely, the attitude you have right now, is the one you have chosen.

2. We all have the potential for greatness! Here is a little quote from Nelson Mandela in his 1994 acceptance speech. He encouraged all of us to let our light shine as an example to others........A way for leaders to attract others into the positive zone.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the Glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us...it is in everyone...and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

3. You get back what you put out. It has been said (and I have proven this in my life) that thoughts are continually going out on the unseen airwaves that surround us, and the only kind of things that come back to us in life are the kind we send out. A lot of people think they are having "Bad Luck" when, they are really just getting back whatever they sent out.


A BLESSING: "Cosmic Retaliation"

I guarantee you......there is a big "Pay Back" for the positive thinker. This little poem says it all. I do not remember the name, or who know who wrote it, but it really has blessed my life and I hope it blesses yours...I call it:

"Cosmic Retaliation"

You never can tell what your "thoughts" will do, in brining you "hate or "love".
For thoughts are things, with airy wings, swifter than a carrier dove.
They follow the laws of the universe, each "thing" will create it's own kind.
They speed out over the track, and they bring you back,
whatever went out from your mind.


Move your thoughts to the positive zone, in your home, on your job, and in all your relationships and especially the management/labor relationship. A "Positive attitude" will draw all the good "stuff" to your doorstep....and its free to all! Bottom line.....A positive relationship is a productive relationship!!!!

WE GOT MAIL......From You! Email from a class participant to VPHR After Super Supervisor people skills 101 training session.

I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate you taking the time to show my supervisors the training tape.

I personally can say I have tried some of the techniques that were presented in the training session and they seem to be having some positive results. For example:
A couple of days ago I spent roughly 2 hours going up to each operator reintroducing myself and asking their names. Some of them, I am ashamed to admit, I did not know although I did know their faces. However this obviously made an impact because one of our veterans came up to me later in the day, talking about what a big buzz that was going around from me just taking the time to talk to everyone. That person stated to me that it was making a difference.
Another example:
The other day I talked to an operator about what she thought about the company (she had only been here 3 months) and a few hours later, I saw her again, and said hi Jessica, and she said I just made her day because I remembered her name.

It looks like a little bit can go a long way, just like Mildred said.

Just a couple of examples that I wanted to share with you to show you that your efforts did not go to the waste side.
