Someone once said "The whole is greater than the sum of its individual parts" and group thinking can be better than that of any single individual. How many times have your ideas been enlarged and improved upon by the ideas, thoughts and suggestions of others? If this is true, then why have we all experienced group meetings that were a waste of time, fell short of expectations, or worse, counter productive. Three
of the main causes of breakdowns and waste in group communications are: Leading companies like Motorola, Nokia, HP, Campbells Soup have discovered Debono's amazingly simple "6 hats" tool can prevent breakdowns, eliminate waste, and harvest the group's best thinking in less time....Let's see how the tool works.
The
"6 hats" tool for facilitating group thinking 6 kinds of productive thinking that goes on in a group:
"6
hats" in action (imaginary 30 minute meeting to decide if Debono's
"6 hats" tool might benefit our organization?"). Imagine each picture represents the type of productive thinking going on within groups as follows:
That's all there is to it......with a little practice you will master a simple but powerful tool to "unleash the best thinking from your team for your organization" If you like the concept you will be interested in our new "6 hats Facilitator Skills" for Super Supervisors......an in-house seminar based on de Bono's "6 hats" tool featuring "Jay Wenberg" See Featured Product below or email or call Doug at 336-887-6426. |

Creative excuses
for not doing homework:
I didn't do it because I didn't want to add to MY TEACHER'S already heavy workload.
I made a paper plane out of it and it got hijacked.
I put it in a safe, but lost the combination.
Some aliens from outer space borrowed it so they could study how the human brain worked.
I loaned it to a friend, but he suddenly moved away.
I left it in my shirt and my mother put the shirt for washing.
My little sister ate it.
A sudden wind blew it out of my hand and I never saw it again.
I was kidnapped by terrorists and they only just let me go, so I didn't have time to do it.
The lights in our house went out, and I had to burn it to get enough light to see the fuse box.
Another pupil fell in a lake, and I jumped in to rescue him but unfortunately my homework drown.
I used it to fill a hole in my shoe, you wouldn't want it now.
My father had a nervous breakdown and he cut it up to make paper dolls.
I didn't do it, because
I didn't want the other kids in the class to look bad
Deep Thoughts
A fine is
a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well.
Anyone who thinks he is too small to make a difference has never been in bed with a mosquito.
Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and the world laughs louder.

Kyle's
Story
(Every
one knows someone like this.)
One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books.
I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd." I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.
As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes
My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks. " They really should get lives.
"He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!" There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.
I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid.
I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends. He said yes. We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him.
Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. When we were seniors, we began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown, and I was going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem. He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship.
Kyle was valedictorian of our high school class. (I teased him all the time about being a nerd).
He had to prepare a speech for graduation. I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak
Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him. Boy, sometimes I was jealous. Today was one of those days.
I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!" He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled.
"Thanks," he said.
As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began "Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years.
Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends...I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story."
I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile.
"Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable." I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize it's depth.
Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For better or for worse.

Mildred's message a blessing to Fortune 100 Chemical Company
I have heard nothing but great comments about all your mother had to say and the way she said it. Everyone was impressed with how sincere she is and the fact that she does not mind sharing her experiences in a effort to help others better relate not only to the people they work with but those outside the work place as well. There is an old spiritual hymn that says "If I can help somebody, as I pass along this way, then my living won't be in vain" I want you to know that I feel blessed to have met Mrs. Ramsey and yourself, may God bless you and smile upon you in your efforts to help change lives. I want to preview the Super Supervisor video series with our team leader development team to see if it can work into our existing training program so please send it to me at your earliest convenience. (note from Doug....they liked the preview and implemented the Super Supervisor video series) God bless. Practice 6-hat thinking: 1. Practice putting on the various hats the next time you write and email or report, or facilitate a meeting to make sure you have thought through all the issues. 2. Notice 6 hats thinking while interacting with people until it feels natural. (Blue when they are thinking about process (eg organizing a meeting), White when pulling together facts and information, green when thinking creatively, yellow and black for critically examining the positive or negative alternatives, and red for gut feelings).
